This “Dr. Tux” avatar almost exactly reflects my career path.
I am a former IT professional. I shifted my focus to science, medicine, and general human well-being in mid 2004. In May of 2006 I returned to school to complete a Bachelor’s in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Arizona (May 15th, 2010).
I am a hands-on learner so I did my best to work in related areas while I was a student. I worked at a local’s community college chemistry lab preparing labs for chem/bio classes, I worked at a local hospital drawing and helping analyze blood, and I worked at a research facility at the university’s medical center. The research led to me being listed as a coauthor in a recent publication (May 2011) – the abstract is listed on PubMed.
The one professional aspect the avatar does not highlight is my entrepreneurial spirit. I started my own health & wellness company (as an independent Mannatech associate) in mid 2004 and by early 2006 it had grown internationally and provided sufficient income for me to retire at the age of 28. Retirement in the sense that I do not collect a traditional paycheck and am in complete control of my time. I can’t ever see myself doing absolutely nothing. Today this business reaches across 17 countries in 5 different continents. If you have serious health or financial concerns contact me, I may be able to help you.
